Beddingham off-road ride 28/02/2016

po160228_1An off-road ride over the South Downs, led by John  on 28/02/2016. Four riders were out today, doing a total of 12 miles (that’s 12 off-road miles don’t forget, somewhat different to 12 miles on tarmac)

We start from Southease YHA, where there’s a cycle repair point (see photo) and a hose which is a nice addition for cyclists. This YHA was recently opened (2013) and has a good café which we made full use of; probably the first ever ride which starts with a café stop!

Having fun with a gate, near the River Ouse

Our ride starts by crossing the river, then turning northwards along the riverbank (two options here, the windy bank itself, or a wet ditch with less wind; we tried them both!) for a while before turning west towards Rodmell. From this point on it’s going to be mostly off-road…

Between Rottingdean and Saltdean

After lunch in Rottingdean, we head east along the coastal path for a short distance until we reach Saltdean, then turn inland and head up some big hills towards Telscombe.
From here John offered us the choice between off-road or on-road back to Southease, and we chose the on-road route as it’s a bit easier

Back at the YHA starting point, the banana I’d left on top of my car by mistake when we set out was still there 🙂
