Thursday evening ride – BEXHILL

Thursday evening rides in Bexhill will be on the SECOND Thursday of every month.

Meet on Bexhill Promenade next to the Sailing Club, ready to start riding at 6:30pm. We will cycle for about an hour, then return to Bexhill for an [optional] drink at a café or pub. The meeting point is a short cycle from Bexhill Station, and is conveniently situated on the National Cycle Network route 2. There is free car parking on Bexhill promenade.

No need to book, just turn up, please bring bike lights.

Our aim is to have two ride groups; a “tortoises” short & easy ride, and a “hares” ride which will be a bit longer and faster , however as this is a new venture we will assess which ride(s) to do based on the demand that evening.

Winchelsea/Rye (Level-1)

We will begin our ride at Winchelsea Station at 11:45am and cycle into Rye via the Nature Reserve. Coffee stop in Rye. A lovely flat route with great scenery with a traffic free section of NCN 2 and a bit of practice on the road too. Some experienced members of the club in be on hand and  will be happy to answer questions you may have about riding technique, road positioning and cycling in a group.
We will be back at Winchelsea Station sometime in the early/mid afternoon.

Note: There will also be a “feeder ride” starting from Battle and arriving at Winchelsea Station by 11:45am, although the feeder ride will be at a “Level-2b” pace. Details are here

Thursday Evening ride – BATTLE

Thursday Evening rides in Battle will run throughout the summer on the FIRST and THIRD thursday of every month.

As with previous years we will meet on the Abbey Green, ready to start riding at 6:30pm. We will cycle for about an hour, then return to Battle for an [optional] drink at a café or pub

Whenever possible we will aim to have two ride groups every week; a short & easy ride, and another which will be a bit longer and faster. The leaders will describe the route(s) at the beginning and you can chose which one you want to go on.
Note that neither of the rides could be described as “Level 1” because there aren’t any routes we can use that are on the flat

No need to book, just turn up. Please bring lights and a bike lock if you have them

Level 1 ride: Coffee at Ocean View Cafe

Starting from Bexhill Colonnade, we will ride to our destination at the Ocean View Cafe in Pevensey Bay, which is 7 miles away.  (so 14 miles in total including the return)

If you’ve not been out on your bike for a while or don’t feel very confident, then this is the ride for you. There will be experienced riders to support you, and no-one will be left behind.

The club insists that you “book in” beforehand when coming on a ride, by contacting the ride leader (Heather, in this case. Her phone number is below)
Ideally, please let Heather know by Thursday morning if you are coming, so that we can give an approximate seating number to the cafe  (although they can always squeeze in a few extras!)

Feeder ride from Battle

I am doing a Level-2B “feeder” ride over to Bexhill Colonade to meet Heather’s Group, where we will do the leisurely (Level 1) cycle to coffee and back.
Leave Battle Abbey Green at 9 and go via Catsfield and Cooden.
Let me know if you are joining me on 07952166819

Thursday Evening ride – HASTINGS

Some months have more than four Thursdays, and when this happens the club tries to do something special on the last (fifth) Thursday.   Tonight the ride will start from Hastings Pier

As with previous years we will set off at 6:30pm. We will cycle for about an hour, then return for an [optional] drink at a café or pub

Whenever possible we will aim to have two ride groups every week; a short & easy ride, and another which will be a bit longer and faster. The leaders will describe the route(s) at the beginning and you can chose which one you want to go on.

No need to book, just turn up. Please bring lights and a bike lock if you have them

Combe Valley Greenway (From CBS)

This is to link up with Sue’s ride to the Pelham…

Meet 9:45am at Cooden Beach Station TN39 4TT
January 19th 2019, 09.45

A short 14 mile loop ride heading out via Lunsford Cross, Henley’s Down and Crowhurst, then climb up to join the Combe Valley Greenway down to Sidley to join our Battle riders for coffee/refreshments at the Pelham Community Hub. Return to Cooden Beach afterwards.
Route will be undulating and on tarmac except the Greenway which has a gravel surface.

Autumn ride to Westfield

Leave Battle Abbey Green at 10 am. Cycle to Westfield via lovely Hurst Lane. On to Westfield, quick wave to the pub where we are going for our club New Year Meal and back to Battle. Approx 12 miles total.  There are, of course, a few hills but as a Level-2A ride we will do them steadily and you can walk if you’re puffed. I will be having coffee and home made cake at the Christmas Tree Festival, at St Mary’s Church in Battle.  I hope you will join me.

Bedgebury Single Tracks

A really enjoyable trail through the woods and a great opportunity to practice/develop your MTB skills.

For those who may not have been before: The route is divided into lots of sections, so we can re-group at the end of each one. No-one will be left behind. The tracks are well prepared and a pleasure to ride on. A lot of them have been maintained recently, so the surfaces are mostly pretty good. About 8 miles total, including some stretches on the fire trails.

Meet at the café for 10:30 start (or earlier if you fancy a coffee first). Mountain bike essential. If you would like to come along but do not have a mountain bike, you can hire one from Quench Cycles (01580 879694), which is at the Visitor Centre, adjacent to the car park and café at Bedgebury. Please allow at least 20 minutes to sort this out.  http://quenchuk.co.uk/bedgebury

Anyone that would prefer to do the family trail instead should be OK with a hybrid bike, and we can still meet up afterwards at the cafe.

Remember to bring a drink and a snack to eat on the way round. We‘ll return to the café about 13:00 for coffee, cake and chat.

If, like me, you don’t want to pay for parking, consider riding in from Stonegate Station or parking in the lay-by on the A21 at Ticehurst (from where you can ride to the café on a track). Alternatively, park in Kilndown and ride to Bedgebury with me at 10:00 (takes 15 mins).

Please text David on 07709 620267 if you would like to come along.
