Viking Way Trail
Sun 17th February
For those who haven’t enjoyed this ride before, this is a 32 mile route around the Isle of Thanet. Starting at Minster, we take in Ramsgate, Broadstairs, Margate and Reculver before returning to Minster. (We could do it the other way round – let’s decide on the day.) Much of the route is coastal and comprises a roughly equal mixture of roads and shared cycle/walking routes.
This is an easier Level-2b ride and might be a good one for those people that are ready to move on from Level 2a
The weather looks hopeful, dry with a moderate southerly breeze, so we’ll be relatively sheltered around the coast. It’s a lovely ride and pretty flat for the most part, just a few lumps around the North Foreland. We should be able to find coffee and lunch on our way round, but perhaps bring some snacks just in case. Also, please bring some spare clothing in case the temperature falls in the afternoon.
I’m aiming to arrive at Minster by train at 11:06. Allowing 3 hours cycling and some time for stops, we should be back at Minster by 4pm. From Battle or Hastings, you’ll have the choice of trains via either Tonbridge or Ashford.
NB Although there is engineering work that weekend, Network Rail say it’s much further towards London and won’t affect our normal train times.
There is parking adjacent to Minster Station if anyone prefers to drive.
