CANCELLED : Teston Country Park ride
Sun 18th March , 10:15 am - 3:00 pm
Sorry folks, but at the time of writing (Friday evening) the weather forecast for Sunday is terrible, and possibly dangerous. I’m therefore cancelling the ride today. I’ll put it on again when the weather is better !
(N.B. It’s pronounced “Teeson”, not “Teston” or “Teeston”!)
Starting from Staplehurst Station, this is a mainly flattish ride with a couple of hills, centred around the Medway Valley in Kent. At Teston Country Park, David will tell you a little about the river, the navigation lock and the canoe/fish pass. Then we’ll pedal on and find a pub or café near Yalding. From there it’s a flat ride back. Start: We’ll leave from Staplehurst Station at 10:20. The 08:50 from Hastings arrives at 10:12, change at Tonbridge. Please check for engineering work. Return: We should get back to Staplehurst Station by 15:00. There are trains at 14:43, 14:49, 15:19, 15:43, 15:49. Distance: 27 miles Please text David on 07709 620267 if you would like to come along. The Met Office forecast indicates snow overnight, with daytime temperatures around freezing and strong winds. If the forecast does not improve, the ride will have to be postponed. Watch this space! If driving, you are welcome to park at David’s house and cycle to the station with him (about 1 mile). If so, please let him know and try to arrive at 09:45 to allow time to unload and cycle to the station to meet the train. Alternatively, you could park in estate roads in Staplehurst village (turn left at the traffic lights, into Marden Road – there are some estate roads soon after) and cycle a short distance to the station. Parking at the station may be difficult, as the Sunday market usually fills the main car park, and it’s expensive anyway.
